Everybody Or Nobody

I saw a voter the other day from Merrimack up in Concord who was paying a parking ticket, and we struck up a conversation, but one part really stuck with me.

The day she got the ticket, there was a car right next to hers that had pulled in after the parking attendant had walked by, but hadn't put money into the meter. She was furious that she had to pay a ticket while the person next to her didn't. "Everybody should have to pay, or nobody should have to pay," she said. "That's the only fair way to do it."

While it may not always be feasible, her story is a good parable to remember: unless the law is equally applied to everyone, then disrespect for the law festers.
